Best Vegan Podcasts

On the way to work, in the gym, while cleaning, cycling, walking or running errands…podcasts are a great and very convenient tool to learn, be inspired, informed and stimulated.

While everyone seems to have their favs, we thought it would be nice to share some of our favorite, vegan-related podcasts. As we are really into ethical veganism, consistent anti-opression and collective liberation, we focused on sharing those that make us (re)think, (re)evaluate things and listen to opinions of people from diverse backgrounds and areas of expertise. Naturally, there are many other great vegan podcasts out there – on nutrition, spirituality, cooking, lifestyle, minimalism and more. I still hope you can find something interesting for you in the list below and if not, I hope that you’ll look further for something super tailored to your intellectual needs (and share your finds with us, please!:)).

The podcasts below are not put in any specific order, we like them all more or less equally, just for different things. Check them out and leave a comment if you have any additional thoughts or ideas.

ABOUT:

“Taking a pro-intersectional approach to their activism, Callie and Nichole “attack” a wide range of topics from an anti-capitalist, feminist, anarchist, vegan perspective. (…) The show is meant to be a source of support and community for people already dedicated to the vegan lifestyle, but (…) also welcome new vegans and those who are veg-curious to get a peek behind the curtain of vegan life. “

WHY WE LIKE IT:

It’s political, it’s witty and it’s funny. You learn, you laugh, you nod a lot and you feel like jumping into the discussion. Very recommended.

PS. The hosts have now stopped creating new episodes and started a new podcast called Bitchy Shit Show that decentered veganism and focused more on political and social matters. It’s a good one too!

ABOUT:

“The ChickPeeps is a friendly and fun vegan podcast exploring, discussing and unpicking the dilemmas faced by vegans in our quest to be more compassionate towards animals. The host – actress Evanna Lynch (aka Luna Lovegood of the Harry Potter movies), and her co-hosts Momoko Hill, Robbie Jarvis and Tylor Star discuss their philosophies, challenges and opinions on living the vegan lifestyle, and turn the mic on some of the Animal Rights community’s most inspiring and seasoned activists and try to decipher the best ways of living that is kind to animals, ourselves and Mother Earth.”

WHY WE LIKE IT:

It’s light, it’s hopeful and it’s very easy to listen to without feeling overwhelmed or compassion-fatigued. The lovely hosts invite guest speakers (from a media-popular, mainstream vegan movement, but still) that specialize in a discussed area. Bonus points for Harry Potter jokes, insights and side-line stories.

ABOUT

“Miranda, your chubby vegan host — bringing you a new guest every week — is here to dismantle the way veganism is represented. Topics range from body type representation (or the lack thereof) in the vegan movement, to animals rights news, to fave vegan products. The Vegan Chub Club is a place for ALL vegans — are you ready to join?”

WHY WE LIKE IT:

We love the feminist perspective and the fact that it tackles important issues that are often overlooked in the mainstream veganism – diet culture, body shaming and more. You’ll learn, you’ll rethink and hopefully understand more – regardless of your lived experience.

WHY WE LIKE IT:

It’s thought-provoking, it’s relevant, it’s educational, diverse content-wise and it reeeally advocates for collective liberation. Apart from the chosen topic, the two hosts respond to listeners’ feedback, questions and emails which always gives extra content you haven’t expected in the particular episode.

ABOUT:

“A podcast exploring issues around speciesism and the struggle to dismantle it.”

WHY WE LIKE IT:

Despite the monotonous and rather subdued voice of the host, the issues discussed in this podcast are very intriguing and so are the guests invited to speak. Talking about different angles in which speciesism and oppressions work, there is a strong focus on activism.

ABOUT:

Vegan Feminist Radio is hosted by founder of Vegan Feminist Network – Dr Corey Wrenn and ally Brian Snead – our lovely friend you might know from our monthly Vegan Book Club. It is not really a podcast, as there are not new episodes coming out regularly, but nevertheless the content in the few episodes there is interesting.

WHY WE LIKE IT:

It’s funny, to the point, unapologetic and bringing up important thoughts. The whole page is just full of resources and things to read, if you haven’t seen it yet – highly recommended to look into it. Bonus points for the most amazing laugh of the main host. Expect episodes on “trumpocalipse”, vegan travels or capitalism.

ABOUT:

“Animal Law professor and longtime activist – Mariann Sullivan – unpacks the latest updates, cases, and news from the burgeoning world of animal law. Sometimes joined by the leaders in the field, she will offer her own insightful (and sometimes biting) commentary.”

WHY WE LIKE IT:

Taking real cases as a starting point, the podcast discusses concepts that we, as vegans, usually have to defend in discussions with non-vegans…but it does so in a very professional way. Very interesting angle for anyone who’s interested in law, organizational structures and maybe even political lobbying.

ABOUT:

“Marine [is] dedicated to educating herself and teaching others about pro-intersectional veganism. Mexie provides grounded critiques of capitalism and explores issues relating to social/environmental/economic justice and veganism. The Podcast was born from both women wanting to share their thoughts and conversations to a broader audience using a more flexible medium than video. “

WHY WE LIKE IT:

It’s political, bold, critically thinking and focused on a variety of topics, most of which are pressing issues that need to be addressed by any social justice movement. You are in for a treat – be ready to listen about capitalism, politics, mental health, social issues, justice and more!

ABOUT:

“Throughout The Disclosure Podcast vegan educator Ed Winters (aka Earhtling Ed) explores different topics surrounding veganism, morality, ethics and the environment, as well as engaging in conversations and debates with guests about these issues.”

WHY WE LIKE IT:

Even though we see issues in how mainstream vegan male activists (often treated as celebrities) are blindly followed and worshipped, we do think this podcast (created by one of those famous activists) is relevant and can ignite thought-provoking discussions. Interesting guests speakers and conversations that you are bound to have in real life make you ready to find arguments and points to use in your advocacy.

I hope those (biased:)) recommendations inspire you to give at least some of those podcast or some of their episodes a try! I would be happy to know what you think so if you have any thoughts you’d like to share with me – go ahead and do it <3
